Futian District Government signed a cooperation deal with well-known chess player Xie Jun on Aug. 9, 2013. According to the cooperation plan, Xie will hold lectures and participate in activities in Futian District on a regular basis, coaching chess lovers, particularly young players, in the district.

Born in 1970 in Hebei Province, Xie is an icon in Chinese chess circles. She became an international chess master at the age of 15 and won a national championship when she was 19. She has won four international championships since 1991. Xie is only the second woman to have two reigns as the women's world champion, the other being Elisabeth Bykova of Russia. In 1991, Xie became China's second chess grandmaster, after Ye Rongguang.
