AS the artificial intelligence (AI) industry in China is witnessing fast growth and development, the Shenzhen Artificial Intelligence Industry Association, with over 100 local member companies specializing in the research and development of AI technologies, was inaugurated Friday during a launch ceremony at a Futian hotel.

The association’s president, Dong Zhenjiang, who is also the vice president of Shenzhen-based telecom maker, ZTE, said the association aims at uniting companies in the AI industry in Shenzhen and promoting the industry’s further development by following the city’s pioneering and innovative spirit.

The association also signed a cooperation agreement with Sun Yat-sen University’s school of data and computer science during the ceremony. Professor Wang Guoli, director of the university’s institute of intelligent science and technology, said the cooperation between the association and the university will be rolled out in two main aspects — cultivating professional talents for the AI industry and facilitating the transformation of AI technologies.

“This cross-city cooperation is a hard-won opportunity and suited to the Central Government’s development strategy for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area,” Prof. Wang said.

The association has also set up an expert committee, which was joined by academics and experts from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Peking University, Sun Yat-sen University and Harbin Institute of Technology.
