Wutong Mountain
Rising 944 meters, Wutong Mountain is the highest peak in Shenzhen and regarded as one of its most beautiful hiking spots. One paved road with a number of winding dirt paths leads to the summit, which offers a breathtaking view of Dapeng Bay to the east and the cityscape to the south. Sheltered by exuberant greens, the mountain paths offer fun for hikers, where they can stop from time to time to enjoy the beautiful scenery along the way. Motorists will have an easier time of it. Drive directly to the car park at Xiaowutong (Small Wutong) and then hike via Haohanpo (Brave Man’s Slope) to Dawutong (Big Wutong). For more fun, hike from the mountain’s foot via paths to Xiaowutong and to Dawutong.

Fairy Lake Botanical Garden
Covering about six square kilometers in Shenzhen’s eastern suburbs, the park opened to the public in 1988. A dazzling variety of green plants, views of the Wutong Mountain and a crystal clear lake are big tourist draws. The park is also the site of scientific research and education because of its bio-diversity. There are 16 collections of plants with more than 3,000 species of vegetation being conserved in gardens, such as the palm garden, the magnolia garden, the petrified forest, the rare and endangered trees garden, the bamboo garden and the fruit garden. Another attraction at the park is the Hongfa Temple built in 1985. Many come to the temple to seek blessings from Buddha on lunar holidays. There are also spots for fi shing, boating and barbecuing outdoors.

OCT East
OCT East turned the last virgin land of Sanzhoutian forests into a theme park and resort at Dameisha, Yantian District. Occupying about nine square kilometers, the resort promises a comfortable stay at its deluxe hotels OCT East. Surrounded by natural beauty. Though pricy, the rooms at Interlaken Hotel are popular so reservations should be made early for weekend stays. The resort consists of three theme parks: Knight Valley, Tea Stream Valley and Wind Valley. Tea Stream Valley, a combination of Western and Eastern culture, offers a miniature Swiss village, large tea fields and a Buddhist temple. You can tour the valley by miniature train, play golf and watch the song and dance gala “Tea Show,” staged at 4 p.m. each day. Knight Valley features forests, waterfalls and a village producing red wine.

Evergreen Resort
Located on a slope of Nanshan Mountain, the resort combines mountain views with artificial gardens to create a pastoral peacefulness. Visitors can learn to make their own pottery, pick fruit and play chess or table tennis games at the resort. There are also facilities such as a gym, swimming pool and library. Scores of villas and cottages are scattered around the resort. Worth mentioning are cottages built on giant banyan trees that make guests feel as though they are living in ancient times.

Guangming Farm
Located in Gongming Township in Bao’an District, the farm is an ideal place for people seeking natural beauty and peaceful rural life. Just a half-hour bus ride from downtown, it offers a variety of attractions including fruit and dairy farms, fishing pools, an archery club, bungee jumping and outdoor barbecue. The park holds a 300-meterlong grass skating course on 60,000 square meters, the largest of its kind in China. It also has Asia’s largest pigeon garden. In summer, it is a perfect place to pick fresh litchis. Home to more than 20,000 milk cows, the farm offers people a glimpse into the modern process of milking. Don’t forget to try a tasty glass of fresh milk.
